About Us

Neighbour Connections is a not for profit community organisation funded through the Home and Community care program.

We are passionate about providing flexible social support services to people living in the City of Sydney local government area who are frail aged or have disabilities, together with their carers’ in order to:

  • Reduce social isolation
  • Support people to live independently in the community

Membership

Neighbour Connections is managed by a volunteer board of residents, workers & clients. We welcome and encourage people living in the City of Sydney to join Neighbour Connections through membership. Click here to read more about our board.

Our History

The service began more than 20 years ago when some caring residents became concerned that many of the older residents in Redfern were not coping on their own. They door knocked their neighbourhood and found their concerns were confirmed. What was needed was the kind of things neighbours do – escort to the doctor, help to get to the bank, help to do shopping, sharing a cuppa and keeping in touch. And so the service began – first with volunteers then with government funding as a Neighbour Aid Service through the Home and Community Care Program (HACC).

Our Vision

Neighbour Connections has a vision of the future it wants to help create. Our vision is an enriched community, which is strong, respectful and responsive to the needs of individuals. It is a community where there is kindness and concern, and support for people’s wellbeing. It is a community where neighbours are connected with each other and with the services they need.

Our Purpose

Neighbour Connections’ purpose is to provide flexible social support services for socially isolated people, living in the City of Sydney LGA, in order to: prevent or reduce social isolation and support people to live independently in the community. In providing such services, we also support their carers. We actively work in partnership with other agencies to achieve better service outcomes. Click here to make connections.

Our Strengths

Neighbour Connections is a unique service which fills the gaps not covered by other service types. Neighbour Connections is flexible and innovative and promotes the person centred approach.
